When introducing yourself to an employer, another student, a NorQuest staff member, considering mentioning the following:
Who you are (your name)
What program you're in at NorQuest College
What you'd like to accomplish at the Career Fair
For example, your introduction could sound like this:
"Hello, my name is Alex and I am in my second year of the Business Administration program, and will be graduating in April 2025. At the Career Fair, I would like to meet employers and learn about career opportunities."
Researching employer organizations
If you are planning on attending Employer expo booths, it is important to plan and research ahead of time:
How do I talk with employers?
When you meet with an employer, you should expand upon your introduction to include your work experience, WIL experience (this includes co-op, practicum, field experiences, etc.) and volunteer experience, to highlight the wonderful knowledge and experience you possess.
For example, your introduction can now sound like this:
"Hello, my name is Alex and I am in my second year of the Business Administration program, and will be graduating in April 2025. At the Career Fair, I would like to meet employers and learn about career opportunities. I have completed a co-op experience last summer with XYZ Company, and have worked at 123 Organization as a Administrative Assistant until 2024. I am excited to connect with you about business and administrative opportunities with your company."
Ask thoughtful and relevant questions to employers so you can learn about their organization:
What kind of employee are you looking to hire?
How can I contact you in the future?
Where can I find more information about your organization?
What does your company value?
