Generative AI for NorQuest learners

Support for NorQuest learners to start using generative AI tools.

Using generative AI for your career

You can use generative AI tools to support your job search and your career. The NorQuest Career Centre recommends viewing GenAI as your personal assistant; this technology can help you better articulate or understand information, but it does not replace your work.

Prompts to use when job searching

Here are examples of how to properly craft your prompts and what you should avoid doing:

Don't prompt... Do prompt...
“Write me a cover letter for this job posting.” “Identify the top 5 qualifications a candidate needs based on this job posting.”
“Answer the following interview questions for me.” “What is an employer looking to learn about a candidate when they ask this question:…”
“Create a persuasive e-mail I can send to employers to hire me.” “How do I write a persuasive e-mail to an employer who is looking to hire?”

Examples of good prompts:

  • Please find the top 5 minimum requirements and qualifications from this job description
  • What are common substitutions for this specific job title?
  • Check for grammatical errors in my cover letter.
  • This is my resume, can you ask me questions that will help me match the qualifications of the job description on my resume
  • Critique my resume by providing important keywords from the job description that are not on my resume
  • I am writing a professional summary for my resume, what accomplishment in my current resume is the most related to this job posting
  • Using Microsoft Office was mentioned as a main requirement for a job that I will be interviewing for, please give an example of a behavioural
    question that they may ask
