Citation in APA or MLA Style

If you include any content directly created by generative AI in your assignment, you must cite it. There are guidelines for citing generative AI tools in APA and MLA Style:

General acknowledgement

If you used generative AI in any way to help you complete an assignment, you must acknowledge it. This includes using generative AI to: 

  • Check your grammar and spelling, proofreading, and/or enhancing the readability of your body text
  • Provide any guidance or insight when you feel like you are missing a connection or may be leaving out information that you're not sure about
  • Brainstorm topics or ideas
  • Generate keywords and search terms to find sources of information in a database
  • Plan, outline, and/or organize your ideas
  • Check your computer code for errors or missing elements and/or to see if it works properly

Acknowledgement Template: 

I acknowledge and disclose the use of [AI tool name and version] (link to AI tool home page) on [mm/dd/yyyy].

This information was used to [identify the purpose of using the genAI tool and how the output was used].

Acknowledgement Example:
