Should you use generative AI? 

Use this flow chart to decide if you should use generative AI to complete your assignment, test, or exam.

1. Check your course outline and misiwe pehtâkwan course. Does your instructor say if you are allowed to use generative AI? 

  • If yes, you can continue to Step 2. 
  • If no, you should not use generative AI.
  • If you're not sure, you should ask your instructor.

2. If generative AI was not available to you, could you complete this task on your own? 

  • If yes, you should consider completing the task on your own.
  • If no, you can continue to Step 3.

3. Does it matter if the output is true?

  • If yes, you can continue to Step 4.
  • If no, you can skip to Step 6.

4. Will you be able to tell if the information is accurate?

  • If yes, you can continue to Step 5.
  • If no, you should not use generative AI for this task.

5. Are you willing to take full responsibility for inaccuracies?

  • If yes, you can continue to Step 6.
  • If no, you should not use generative AI for this task. 

6. Have you considered all the ethical considerations of using generative AI tools?

7. Will you properly acknowledge your use of generative AI?
