NorQuest Library Basics

A guide to accessing and using library resources at NorQuest College.

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser extension tool to help you find articles the library already has access to, so you can:

  • Research fast!
  • Avoid Paywalls
  • Have one-click access to scholarly articles


Step 1: Download the LibKey Browser Extension 

Step 2: Go to the browser menu and find the Extensions Manager.

Step 3: Pin the LibKey Nomad Extension so you can always find it on your browser.

Step 4: Search for and select NorQuest College from the Organization List.

Step 5: All set up? Start exploring!

 

Look for icons like the ones below to help identify articles that the Library already subscribes to!

NQ library has access to resources on the webpage. 
Links to the PDF format of the article.
Links to the web version of the article. 
Directs to an ILL form.  
Connect with the library chat services for help. 
Add the article to Zotero and Mendeley citation managers. 

 

Browzine

Read Journals with BrowZine!

BrowZine is a service that allows you to browse, read and follow scholarly journals in a beautiful visual display! 

  • Browse and read journals: Browse thousands of top journals by subject, easily review tables of contents, and download full articles.
  • Stay Current with My Bookshelf: Create a personal bookshelf of titles to follow and receive new article notifications.
  • Access on any device: Easily access BrowZine from your iOS and Android device and on the web to stay up to date wherever you are.
  • Save and export articles: Use the BrowZine app to save articles for off-line reading or export to services such as Mendeley and Zotero!

 

Install and setup Browzine

Step 1: Visit browzine.com or download the app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Amazon App Store.

Step 2: Open the browzine app

Step 3: Choose your Library

Step 4: Login with your Network account.

Step 3: Click on settings. 

Step 4: Create a Browzine account to save Journals and articles to your bookshelf

How to use:

  1. Search by title, ISBN, or subject or browse by subject to discover key journals and links to full text articles.
  2. To access full-text articles, simply click the PDF icon and login using the same user name and password that you use for misiwe pehtâkwan.

    • When one-click access is not available, click the Link to Article icon and login.

  3. When full text is available, you will be taken to the library catalogue or the publisher's website.
  4. If you would like to save your favorite journals, create an optional BrowZine account.

Setup Citation Mangers

Browzine integrates with Zotero and Mendeley 

Citation Managers App setup:

  • Step 1: When you find a resource you would like to add to your citation manager tap on the 3 dots in the right corner of your screen and select the citation manager of choice.
  • Step 2: You will be directed to a login screen for the citation manager
    • Zotero: allows you to create an account or login if you already have an account. You will also be required to give permission for Browzine to integrate
    • Mendeley: You can login but will have to create an account on the Mendeley website. 

Citation Managers in Browser:

  • Step 1: When you find a resource you would like to add to your citation manager click on the cap in the right corner of your screen and select the citation manager of choice.

            

  • Step 2: You will be directed to a login screen for the citation manager
    • Zotero: allows you to create an account or login if you already have an account. You will also be required to give permission for Browzine to integrate
    • Mendeley: You can login but will have to create an account on the Mendeley website. 

 

The personal information requested by LibKey is collected under the authority of section 33(c) of the Alberta Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and will be used to for the creation of an optional Browzine account, which provides an accessible way for students to access and interact with academic journals. Reference Managers

These tools can help keep research organized:

  • Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources.
  • Mendeley is a free web and desktop reference management application.

Reference manager generated citations still need to be proofread!

  • You must know how to use a citation formatting guide
