Student Guide to ProctorU - ACCUPLACER

Please use this guide to prepare for your ACCUPLACER exams with ProctorU.

Taking your exam

 

What can I expect on exam day?

  • On your exam day: if you have followed all the previous steps and are still experiencing issues, do not panic! Please reach out to Testing Services immediately before proceeding. You can connect with us at testing@norquest.ca or 780 644 6055. 

  • On your exam day: if you get disconnected, ProctorU may try to phone you to help resolve the issue. Please retrieve/turn on your phone during this time. 

  • Make sure your computer passes the equipment test, and that you have installed the Guardian Browser. Click on the Prepare Your Computer section for more information.

  • Log in to ProctorU at least 10 minutes early. This time is important so that you can get ready.

  • Make sure you are in a private, well-lit location – no one is allowed in the same room with you. Be prepared to show the proctor your room and your cleared workspace.

  • Have a government-issued photo ID or your NorQuest photo ID ready to show your proctor.

  • There are steps to go through before your exam begins. Do not worry – these steps do not take away from your exam time. Your exam time does not start until the exam is opened for you. These steps may take 5-10 minutes. Please note that you are being recorded during the check-in period.

  • If your internet connection gets cut off, and you are disconnected from your exam session, do not panic! Once you get internet back, log back into your ProctorU account. Select “Reconnect” on your main dashboard. If you are disconnected for too long, you may need to rebook your appointment. 

  • Note: headphones are not allowed during your exam unless you have an approved accommodation from Accessibility Services.

 

Important exam-related notes: 

  • You cannot go backward to revisit a question once you submit your answer. Be sure of your answer before you proceed! 
  • When taking your Math assessment: 
    • Some questions will provide you with a basic calculator to use. To access this calculator, click on the calculator icon from the top right of your screen. A small calculator will come up, and you are able to use it for that question only. 
    • Some questions do not come with a calculator icon. This means you need to solve the question with mental and/or written down math. 

 

  1. Open the ProctorU Guardian Browser. 
  2. Sign into your ProctorU account here. 
  3. Select 'My Sessions' from the top left corner of your dashboard. 
  4. The light blue box in the middle will show a timer for when your exam will begin. 
  5. When the timer reaches 0, select 'Start session'. You will then start the pre-check process. 
  6. Select 'Get started' and continue to follow the prompts.
  7. Review the privacy policies and terms of service. Select 'Begin recording & continue' when ready. 
  8. Select your preferred devices. Select 'Begin recording & continue when ready. 
  9. Read the test rules and be familiar with the allowed resources for your exam. You may need to take a clear photo of your valid photo ID card. Select 'Next' when ready. 
  10. Read the readiness check guidelines and procedures. Select 'I'm ready to begin the room scan' and 'Launch guided room scan' when ready. 
  11. Follow the instructions on how to scan your room and workspace. Select 'My space is secure' once the room scan has been completed. 
  12. Complete the cell phone check, and select 'Devices are out of reach' when ready. You may be asked to show your laptop/desktop computer using your cell phone before putting it away. 
  13. When the proctor decides that everything is properly set up, you can begin your exam. Follow the proctor's instructions. 
  14. After your exam: inform the proctor that you completed your exam by speaking to them or messaging them through the ProctorU chat box. Follow the proctor's instructions and close the Guardian browser when everything is complete.
