A guide to help you understand the process of writing and types of writing for assignments at NorQuest College.

What do I do?

Below is a description of what the writing process that most of your assignments will follow. It is very important to make sure that you have read your assignment guidelines carefully and you understand what is being asked of you before you start writing anything.

 

 
 
  1. Pre-Writing: get your thoughts and facts together; find the resources you need, read them thoroughly, and make notes
  2. Outline: develop a plan for your arguments, decide the order in which you will present them, and match the evidence from your resources to your argument
  3. Draft: create a first draft of your paper and make sure that information you get from outside sources is cited properly
  4. Review: read your paper over and think about how you can improve it
  5. Revise: change your draft so that it becomes smoother, clearer, and generally better
  6. Edit: check the final version for spelling, grammar, and formatting errors, and finalize your citations and bibliography/reference page/works cited list
  7. Publish: submit your paper to your instructor on misiwe pehtâkwan!
