November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day, in recognition of the military service and contributions indigenous people have made during the First and Second World Wars, and the Korean War. First observed in Winnipeg in 1994, it has since been observed nationwide. It is estimated that about seven thousand Indigenous people served in all three wars, with an unknown number contributing to the Inuit and Métis. Many Indigenous people continue to offer their service in the Canadian Armed Forces in Canada and the rest of the world.
