Every year in July, Disability Pride Month celebrates persons who experience disability, their identities and culture, and their positive contributions to society. While it originated in the United States after the Americans with Disabilities Act came into law in July 1990, it has since been celebrated around the world, including Canada where approximately 22 percent, or 6.2 million Canadians live with a disability. The Disability Pride Flag is comprised of six colors, each representing a different kind of disability or neurodiverse experience: Red for physical disabilities, Gold for neurodivergence, White for invisible or undiagnosed disabilities, Blue for psychiatric disabilities, and Green for sensory disabilities.
